A Great Way to Help

My name is Allison, and I am a Master’s student studying Public Relations at Boston University. This semester I am working alongside The Boston House for PRLab, which is the longest student-run PR organization in the country. Today I wanted to write about my experience planning a House Dinner on behalf of the BU COM Graduate Student Council, and why you should get involved with TBH in any way you can.

When I was put on The Boston House Team, I had not yet heard of the organization. Upon

reading about TBH and visiting for the first time, I immediately got the feeling that this would be an organization that would have a lasting impact on me. The atmosphere and the people are so kind and welcoming that I knew I wanted to get involved in any way possible.

When I took the idea of a House Dinner to the president of the grad student council, she was so excited about the idea. Immediately we started recruiting members to join our team, scheduled a date, and got started on a menu. While none of us are admittedly the best chefs, we decided that the best plan of action was to order a bunch of pizzas, salads, and fun appetizers. Who doesn’t love pizza? The most important thing was that we were doing our small part in the amazing work that The Boston House team does daily.

Flash forward to the night of the dinner, it felt so great to be able to provide a delicious meal to the families at The Boston House. When people are going through so much emotionally,

mentally, and physically, the little things matter so much. I had the opportunity to talk to a few parents, and they all were so grateful. If I can help alleviate any bit of stress from these strong people so that they don’t have to worry about what they will feed their family for dinner, I will be happy. So if you are reading this, and want to get involved at TBH, take this as your sign. It means a lot.
