Elaine Construction and The Boston House have worked together for nearly 30 years to provide a safe and comfortable no-cost home-away-from-home for children with cancer. For the Newton-based construction company, that includes all kinds of help: monetary and in-kind support, board involvement and community fundraising.
The Boston House has been providing a place for children with cancer receiving treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children's Hospital since 1979, with a capacity for up to 22 families at a time — all for free. Elaine Construction uses its own labor and expertise to keep The House updated and maintained while minimizing expenses. Its employees have also donated or fundraised more than $250,000 over the years to support the nonprofit.
Here's what they say about the partnership:
"The Boston House’s mission is to provide a no-cost home away from home for pediatric cancer patients and their families so they can focus on the health of their child without worrying about where to stay or how to afford it. For nearly 30 years, Elaine Construction has provided their expertise, financial and in-kind contributions, and volunteer support. They have been instrumental in helping our families receive the comfort and care they deserve."
— Dawn Emerman, co-executive director of The Boston House
“The Boston House is the help, hug and listening ear for families facing childhood cancer. It is so much more than a roof over their heads. It is a haven in the storm, a source of emotional and physical support, a place to rest, share, play, and to fortify for
the battle. It’s a place of belonging, love and hope. Until childhood cancer is eradicated, Elaine Construction will stand with The Boston House."
— Lisa B. Wexler, president of Elaine Construction
